Of Light and Air (2023) Photomontage on Acrylic 48” x 48”

This artwork attempts to subvert traditional modes of looking and challenges preconceived assumptions of light, sight—and furthermore of epistemology itself. The images themselves draw from different themes of light found in the natural world: fresh and pressed flowers, clouds, light refractions, crystalline patterns. However, these window-like squares are obfuscated with grid patterns acting as blocks, cages or shades. Disrupting assumptions of visibility and transparency, I am interested in securing the shadows - in how dark ultimately informs light.
